Starting from Kwa Matu, the trail winds through montane forest, opens into flower-filled meadows with a gallery of natural rock sculptures, and finishes on dramatic afro-alpine moorland at an elevation of nearly 3,800m — with bird’s-eye views over the historic Happy Valley and Mount Kipipiri.

Itinerary

9:30 AM — Descend to river crossing, cross into the forest reserve

11:30 AM — Steep climb through montane forest. Emerge into open wildflower meadows and rock formations. Enter afro-alpine moorland, approach the summit

1:30 PM — Reach the top — rest, refuel, take in views of Happy Valley and Mt Kipipiri

2:00 PM — Begin descent

4:30–5:00 PM — Return to Kwa Matu, depart for Nairobi
